About Festival of Light
About the publication
Festival of Light is an independent editorial hub about photography festivals and the culture that surrounds them — written by people who queue for openings, sit through portfolio reviews and carry too many photo books home.
What we do
We cover photography festivals worldwide: the long-running biennials, the young upstart festivals, the open calls that fill their walls and the awards that shape careers. Our guides are built for two kinds of reader — the photographer deciding where to submit work, and the visitor deciding which festival deserves a summer trip.
Alongside festival coverage we publish practical craft material: how to build a portfolio, how to read an exhibition, how the photo book circuit works. Everything is written from first-hand attendance and long conversations with curators, printers and fellow visitors.
What we are not
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or officially connected to any festival, biennial or institution we write about. Festival names appear here strictly for editorial purposes. We take no payment for coverage, we do not sell exhibition slots and we never guarantee selection — anyone who promises that is not being honest with you.
Independence
This publication is self-funded and free of advertising from festivals and camera manufacturers. When we recommend attending a festival or entering a call, it is because we believe the experience justifies the time and the entry fee — nothing more.
Corrections
Festival dates, venues and submission terms change from edition to edition. If you spot something outdated, write to us at [email protected] and we will fix it.
